Hi, I'm fairly new to chickens and have a small flock of laying hens, 4 RIR, 1 white leghorn, 1 Plymouth barred rock and 4 easter eggers. I've got a RIR rooster and my 5th easter egger hen turned out to be a rooster! Today I added 27 pullet chicks to my family that consist of 11 buff orpingtons, 11 Plymouth barred rocks and 5 silver laced wyandottes. I also have 3 Pekin ducks, 1 Cayuga duck and 2 Toulouse geese--all female. I really enjoy the birds and would like nothing more than to eventually get into breeding my own.

Welcome to all the new members! I see that you all fit in real well here with the birds you raise. Let us know when you add new birds to your flocks. Also if anyone has a picture of one of their birds they are proud of let me know by way of PM and I'll put it on the front page of the site for a couple of weeks.

I have always had birds of one kind or other. Started with meat birds for the family meat market and some Phoenix. Then for ten years went to D'uccles to get all the colors now have many birds; D'uccles
silkies, Gold Champines,Lakenvelders, Russian Orloffs, bantam White face Spanish,Silver spangled Spitzhaubens,Egyptian Fayomi,Welsummers,Golden Lace Wyandottes,Sumatra and Red shoulder Yokohamas. They can be a handful. I now have a pair of Thai. I guess you can understand I see spots half the time ;D.Will be adding Cubalayas to the fold next year.Wold love some crele birds at some date.

I have a few button quail right now also. Bought them on the spur of the moment... just something to do I guess. Now I'm thinking chickens though... I think. LOL! Like some of the others on here, I'm just sort of tinkering, I want to build an incubator just for the heck of it. I have a commercial refrigerator that will convert easily enough but now I'm thinking it might be serious overkill for what I want... I'm supposing it would handle upwards of 1000 chicken eggs. Maybe I'll just build from scratch and later go big if I need or want. ;)
