Sorry everyone, I'm just figuring this thing out. Nice forum here, lots of good info.
My question is about my black crested white polish that I bred for the first time this summer. I got 4 types of offspring, black crested white, black crested blue, whites with black feathers here and there but not a black crest, and splotchy blacks. The splotchy blacks were immediate culls. I also culled the whites that didn't have much black in them. I was going to cull the blues but they are so nice I decided to maybe start a line of them. Well, I got to thinking about where the whites might be coming from (I'm new to the fancy and genetics so don't laugh at me!) and I suspect they might be SPLASH, darn it. Would BlBl wash out the black crest? Sorry, I don't know how the blue gene interacts with silver/columbian. I'm thinking maybe it's worth keeping one or two around to use as breeders for bc blues. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, Andrew

Andrew, Welcome to the board! Without having worked with the birds you are talking about I would have to say that the white birds with some flecks are definetly splash and the birds with mostly black in them don't have any blue gene at all. I love blue birds and raise lots of them, over half of my flock looks off white because they are splash It's just part of having blues Hope this helps. Mark
