I have not done this cross but it would indeed be interesting. I would love to see some pics of it.

I think if you want them to turn out silkie you will have to take them to the second generation. I believe that the silkie gene is recessive. It will still be very interesting.

You know what would be *really* cool? Silkie feathered giant cochins! Giant 2 foot tall hairballs running around the yard. No need for guardogs there. ;D

Now that would be funny! I'm sure with all of this support for unusual breeding someone will try it. I would like to see it in person. Mark

Silkies are in with sumatra and ......silkies in with white face spanish bantams! I want the all black chicken too and some talk some not so nioce about the "fake" all black chicken and how easy it is to make a all black bird so we will see! I want the pointed strait normal comb and that is the biggest peoblem with a silkie. But with the large white ears may work. Good thing I got enough silkies for the projects I am working on this year! I even put a silkie and a frizzle in with my OECrele roo. That is one busy male! Now the log books are starting to get full! If I get a standard silkie I will be happy but I like the combs on the Sumatra so we will see. The big thing for me is leg colors and skin to stay in the same grouping as once you lose that it is hard to get back. PattiAnn

anytime you cross a silkie with a game type fowl like sumatra.what i mean by game type i do not mean gameness i mean body style and coloring.but anyways if you cross a sumatra over a silkie the outcome will be a bird smaller than a sumatra but bigger than a silkie with softer flowing feathers and the color will be the same as the sumatra more than likely they will have a little bit of feathering on there feet they will have the top notch. i believe it would throw single spurs like a silkie.also it will have 5 toes depending on the silkie.and say the next time you do a brother sister mating it can throw silkie feathering.
