Ok, I have a question about what would cause a really light and diluted colored Barred Blue Quail male to come out of a Blue Quail and Cuckoo cross. My other two males were normal and darkish colored but I got one that looked all muted. I highly doubt the probablility that the bird has two lavendar genes...so is it normal to occassionally get a really pale Blueish bird out of Blue matings??? Kristen

Kristen,
I have found that if my blues carry any barring in them, they usualy come realy light blue. It may have to do with the interaction of the barring and the blue genes or it could be some other modifier at work but it definetly happens in my birds.
