I'm thinking about crossing some of our White OE's and Blue Red Sports to make Red Pyle's, looks to me like it would work better than using BB Red... less black feathers to worry about. Am I on the right track ?

Slipspur,
As long as your whites are dominate white it should work. Recessive white can hide red pretty good but dominate white does not. The blue will help wash out any black flecking. The biggest thing is that it will be your second generation that shows the color you want, not the first. If your whites have silver in them (most likely they do) they will show some red in the shoulders the first year. The second year some of them will be pure for red and it will show in the neck and saddles.
I have never done this and I'm going from memory but I think it will workout this way. I'll look some things up and edit the info if I find other information.
Good Luck!
Mark

What got me to thinking about Pyle's to start with was my cull pen, we had some White hens and some Brown Red cockerels together. Our White's are pretty prolific and set very well, some hens set and raised some Brown Red / White crosses, they were very colorful, the cockerels looked a lot like Pyle's, only with very laced breasts, they did have some black feathers and ticking. Another thing I've noticed was the Pyle game fowl on the gamefowl site's, they are usually from Blue families. We have several nice Blue Red Sports and I was trying to think of a good use for them, all we need is another color on the place

Yep, I have experienced the same thing you are talking about. I have a family of spanish in my yard and some of them come pyle. They are actualy blue sports but you can't realy tell unless you know what they are. The only problem with the blue sport is that they won't breed true Mark

We breed Sport to Sport and get 100% Sports, you sure that's what you meant? It's the actual Blue color that won't breed true.

LOL, your right. When I was typing I was thinking of Blue breasted reds instead of pure blues (it was very early when I was replying to this ). Breeding pure blue (splash) birds does indeed give you 100% pure blue. Out of curiosity what line of birds do you have that are white? If you end up with some good pyles I might like some eggs if you were willing to part with some a good friend of mine has been looking for some nice white OE. Mark

If we get the Pyle's going I'm sure you could get some eggs if they take after the White side, they lay very well. As to our White's, our first one's came from Eggbid, we bought two trio's from Thomas Sox, they are supposed to be Clanton birds and were nice birds. The only problem with them was that they were so inbred that the chicks, although they hatched very well, would starve to death in about 6 days, we couldn't get them to eat for nothing. We met Marvin McGeehee at the Shawnee show and bought a cock and 4 hens from him, his are Clanton birds, and have been blending them with pretty good results since. This year they came good and small and look pretty good. Our Blue Red Sports came from G.L.Louderback they ain't too bad either, I think they would cross well with the White's.
