Pardon me if this has been discussed before. I did look through the genetics posts and didn't see anything. There is a post about genetics of Bl.
My guess about the genetics of the cock used here as the fronticepiece is:
Mahogany (red enhancer typically apparent on the shoulders of birds with not a lot of red).
sex-linked barring is a no-brainer.
His breast is blue so without the Andalusian blue gene, Bl, his breast, thigh and tail feathers would be black. THis together with the "silver" hackles makes be believe he may likely be Birchen, E^R, at the E-locus.
If those are side-points on his comb he may be homozygous for pea comb (We have a number of P/p+ cocks with combs that look like that)
He has red and white ear lobes which might indicate mutt-ness (LOL!)
A lovely bird to be sure!

Lee, You are very correct on some of your guesses! This is a first generation rooster in my project to create (I use the term very loosly) Crele phoenix. This bird is young and will head up my breeding program for next year. I also have his brother as a back up but his tail is not as good as this bird. He is het for silver, het for blue, het for barring, and has several other genes at work in there but I'm not realy concentrating on them (like Mahogany) Next years chicks, the ones I don't cull, will have no blue in them and the best ones will have no silver in them and will be pure for barring. Cheers, Mark

I like him the way he is! Lol. Hello Mark & Lee. I had to re-register for this forum, I guess there's a time limit on "vacations". Toni Marie just sent me some wonderful dun phoenix birds to work with and I was hoping to find out how many others might be working with dun colored phoenix. I'm so excited about these birds! Now I can work on my Dun Sumatras (I got the dun gene from a pit hen) and dun phoenix to my heart's content. Btw Mark, I can't find your email address in my files and I wanted to contact you personally about something. Would you be so kind as to contact me? Dan
