Hi people, I just wanted to know what sort of treats can you give your poultry. Im thinking of giving them something special now and then and just wanted some suggestions on what you lot feed yours (as treats) or what would you recommend. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, i'd love to know the more the merrier for my poultry (not too much though . Thanks. - bantamguy

definetly cat food, thats really high in protein and since chickens are omnivores and need meat in their diet you will also notice that there feathers will grow in really well and will have a nice sheen to them from the cat food, most scraps from your meals chickens will eat, but make sure there is little or no salt in it, salt can kill chickens

What I like give mine is an apple cut in half, then dipped in Clovite, and I stick it to a nail in the pen. They love it and it gives them the extra vitamins. If I'm trying to tame them down, I take in a half a raw peanut or a half of a grape. And hand feed them. The only problem with that, is they get worse than dogs, about being under feet. Looking for thier goodies. Stan

They can also be tamed down that way with bananas. They love them.

another good reason for feeding treats is to keep the birds busy during the day. The "nail" idea was good but what i do is I hang the apple up to the top of the pen with either thin wire or fishing line then hang the apple of it so that it is just low enough for the birds to reach but it takes a little extra effort for them to reach it, this keeps them occupied by trying to get at the apple, really good way for exercise for all of the lazy ones!
